Press Release: THE LIGHTHOUSE ROAD in Paperback
(Denver, CO) Unbridled Books is pleased to announce the June publication of the trade paperback reprint of Peter Geye’s latest novel, THE LIGHTHOUSE ROAD.
With THE LIGHTHOUSE ROAD, Geye gives readers an unsettling and powerful story about family loyalty, the need to be loved, greed, and desire—set in a world of ice and cold, a world so distinct the setting becomes its own character.
Against the wilds of sea and wood, Thea Eide, a young Norwegian immigrant, settles into life outside Duluth in the 1890s, still shocked to learn that her resident family has fallen apart and that she is adrift. With luck and the help of the local apothecary, she finds work as a cook in a logging camp, something to get her through the winter. But the camp is a lonely and isolating existence for Thea, without any common language, without any company.
In the early 1900s, Thea’s son, now grown and full of ambition, falls in love with the one woman he shouldn’t and uses his best skills to build them their own small ark to escape. But their pasts travel with them, threatening to capsize even their fragile hope.
In this triumphant return, Peter Geye crafts another deeply moving tale of a family defined in part by the rough landscape in which they live, and in part by the rough edges of their own breaking hearts.
