Unbridled Books Stimulates Booksellers’ Palates

The Descent of Man, by Kevin Desinger, is scheduled to be released on May 3, 2011. Booksellers and Portland locals are to be the lucky recipients of a specially labeled pinot noir to help promote the kickoff of this new Unbridled Books’ title. The book is set in Portland, and the wine comes from the Willamette Valley in Oregon.
The central character of the book is a quiet wine steward—who turns the tables on two would-be car thieves one day by stealing their truck and subsequently finds his life spiraling into a nightmare when they turn out to be really violent types. The book, out in advanced reader copies, has already received critical acclaim from booksellers. Publishers Weekly lauds the novel as “[A] lively debut…suspenseful.”
Although the book’s cover art depicts the “de-evolution” of our species, the book is really about the moral degradation of certain unsavory members of our society, characters vividly portrayed by Desinger. The unfolding events of the story challenge the reader with a number of ethical issues that lead to the recurring question, “What would I do?”.
Greg Michalson, Co-Publisher for Unbridled Books, came up with the idea for the promotion after viewing the book’s final cover art. He thought it would make a perfect wine label, and considering the occupation of the main character, it was a natural fit.
Ratings on the wine? Well, it’s light-bodied, aromatic and earthy with a subtle fruity character. Delicious!

I liked the label on a bottle of wine. It’s very unusual!

So who designed this great bookcover? I might need them to design my new wines next fall.
